Wagh Infrastructure

Updated 2026-07-28 · organization

Wagh Infrastructure is the fictional construction firm Jagdish Wagh founds and runs through most of the novel. It begins as a two-person contracting outfit taking work nobody else wants and grows into a mid-sized developer handling residential building and redevelopment across Dombivli. The firm matters to the story less as a business than as a test: most of the book's arguments about obligation, shortcuts and civic duty arrive as decisions someone has to make on its behalf. Like every organization on this site, Wagh Infrastructure is invented for the novel and does not correspond to any real company.

Origins

Founded in 1986 with two people and one truck, four years after Jagdish Wagh took his first independent contract. Meera Wagh keeps the books until 1998. The firm’s early work is what the established Dombivli builders pass over.

Scope of work

Small residential blocks through the early nineties; redevelopment from 1996, beginning with an eleven-family society near the station. The firm peaks at around forty staff — large enough that its founder can no longer inspect every site himself, which is the condition the Shivaji Chowk redevelopment tests.

In the novel

The firm matters less as a business than as a test. Most of the book’s arguments about obligation, shortcuts and civic duty arrive as decisions someone has to make on its behalf.
